An elderly couple and a teen were killed on Long Island when a teenage driver led police in a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed into another car, cops said.
The horrific smashup happened at 11:50 p.m. Saturday night at Route 25 and Birchwood Park Drive in Middle Island, killing a 74-year-old man and his 71-year-old wife, police said. A 16-year-old passenger in the car police was chasing was also killed.
Minutes before the crash, Suffolk County police observed 17-year-old Nahriek Belford, who was driving a gray 2015 Nissan Rogue, run a stop sign on Main Street in Yaphank. The vehicle had been reported stolen two days before on Feb. 7, police said.
Cops attempted to pull Belford over — but he took off.
Police then chased Belford westbound down Route 25, where he struck a Honda CRV that was turning left onto Birchwood Park Drive, cops said.
The two people inside the Honda and the passenger in the Nissan were pronounced dead at the scene.
Belford and another passenger in his car sustained serious injuries and were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital.
The driver has been arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, though additional charges are pending, cops said.
The deceased have not yet been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
