Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed another huge injury blow for his side ahead of this weekend’s clash against Wolves on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium.
Although, much of the highlight of Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against Sporting Lisbon on Thursday night at the Emirates was focused on Danny Welbeck’s horrific injury in the first half, the Gunners suffered yet another injury of note to defender Stephan Lichtsteiner in the second half.
With Arsenal already being light at the back, an injury to Lichtsteiner is surely a huge blow going forward for the Gunners, as bulk of the work will now fall on Hector Bellerin who himself is just recovering from a muscle problem and was even reportedly forced back ahead of time due to the importance of Liverpool clash last weekend.
When asked about the injury, Emery said:
“The Lichtsteiner injury changed our idea in the match. “
“We wanted to bring on Eddie Nketiah and give him a chance.”
” When Lichtsteiner had this injury, we had to play with a right back.”
” For this reason, we played Ainsley, but for us it’s good for Ainsley to play these minutes because he needs that to take the confidence and our rhythm. “
“We changed our idea tactically for the last 25 minutes [due to] the injury.”
And when asked of the severity of the injury, the boss said:
“It’s muscular. Tomorrow we will know better.”
