Arsenal have been hit by a triple blow with Granit Xhaka, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all missing today’s trip to Manchester City, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Former Manchester City youngster Denis Suarez is in line to make his Arsenal debut at his old club as the Gunners arrived in Manchester on Saturday night.
Suarez moved to Arsenal on deadline day from Barcelona in a loan deal, and was part of the travelling squad that was pictured at a Manchester hotel before the Premier League fixture against City on Sunday.
Also pictured was Laurent Koscielny, who had been an injury doubt after missing Arsenal’s midweek win over Cardiff. The French defender was injured in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United last week, but tests showed he hadn’t broken his jaw as initially feared.
The Gunners already have Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding absent with long-term injuries, leaving a threadbare set of defenders to negotiate their upcoming fixtures. Sokratis Papastathopoulos was also injured against United and will miss four weeks.
Koscielny’s inclusion in the squad is a boost for Unai Emery, who also has defenders Shkodran Mustafi, Nacho Monreal, Sead Kolasinac, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Carl Jenkinson to pick from at the back.
Attackers Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were also in the travelling party, who travelled north in a private jet.
Goalkeeper Bernd Leno and defender Lichtsteiner were spotted by photographers but not pictured, but Granit Xhaka was not seen getting off the team bus to enter the hotel.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ainsley Maitland-Niles were being assessed daily ahead of the game as they recover from injury, and the pair were also not spotted by photographers. However, they could have travelled independently.
Full Arsenal squad to face Man City:
Koscielny, Mustafi, Monreal, Kolasinac, Mavropanos, Jenkinson, Lichtsteiner
Ozil, Torreira, Guendouzi, Ramsey, Elneny
Lacazette, Aubameyang, Iwobi, Suarez, Nketiah
Not spotted: Granit Xhaka, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Ainsley Maintland-Niles.
