A violent attack on indigenes of Rim district in Riyom, Plateau state, by suspected Fulani herdsmen has led to the death of 11 persons while three others are said to be battling for their lives at a treatment centre.
Nine of the victims, who were returning from Makera market in a car, reportedly died on the spot, two others died in the hospitals. The report quoted witnesses at the scene as saying the gunmen plied the same route on a vectra car, trailing the victims from the Rim junction in Makera village where a military checkpoint is located. The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the police in the state, ASP Tyopev Martias Terna. Terna said investigation had commenced to track down and arrest the suspects. However, the report quoted the spokesperson of the Special Task Force (STF) in charge of internal security in the state, Captain Umar Adams, as saying eight persons died in the incident.
