The Arsenal squad have arrived in Baku – and it didn’t take long for Unai Emery and his team to start stepping up preparations ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League final, against Chelsea. Here are Our Club team news and Squad set for the Vital Clash, SO Sad Some of Our Star Are Out.
Unai Emery has brought a 24-man squad to Azerbaijan for our Europa League final in Baku.
It’s no doubt Arsenal’s biggest game since the Champions League final in 2006, and with qualification for Europe’s premier competition at stake as well, the Europa League final against Chelsea should be hugely anticipated.
However, the issues surrounding UEFA’s choice to host the event in Baku have cast a long shadow over the showpiece event.
With Henrikh Mkhitaryan unable to travel because of the political situation in Azerbaijan, manager Unai Emery will be looking for others to step up to the plate on Wednesday.
In terms of injuries, the Gunners will be without five players for the final. Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) and Denis Suarez (groin) have both been ruled out while Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding are also out of contention with long-term knee injuries.
Konstantinos Mavropanos was not named in the travelling squad with the Greek defender having picked up a knock, but Danny Welbeck has been included.
The England international will likely be named on the bench for the final, despite last playing in November when he suffered a broken ankle against Sporting Lisbon.
For Chelsea, manager Maurizio Sarri has a number of injury concerns. N’Golo Kante is back in training following a hamstring injury but there are still doubts about his fitness.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi are both out with Achilles injuries, while Antonio Rudiger is still absent with a knee injury. Ethan Ampadu (back), Gary Cahill (Achilles) and Marco van Ginkel (knee) will also not feature.
Our travelling group is below, and a 23-man matchday squad will be named 75 minutes before kick off on Wednesday night.
A 23-man matchday squad will be announced on the evening of the match.
