Three teenage soccer players on their way to a tournament in Miami were struck and killed by an out-of-control vehicle, according to police.
The young athletes were waiting at a bus stop around 5:30 a.m. Saturday in North Miami when the driver of an SUV mowed them down, news station WPLG reported.
“It appears as through the driver of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle and somehow went on the sidewalk and struck the kids,” North Miami Police Department spokesperson Natalie Buisserth told the station.
The victims played for Little Haiti FC Soccer Club and were identified as Gideon Desir, 13; Lens Desir, 15; and Richecarde Dumay, 17.
Police said the trio was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was brought to a local hospital in critical condition.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to WPLG.
The team remembered the teens as “good boys” on a GoFundMe page launched to raise money to help with funeral expenses.
“Any additional funding will go towards the Little Haiti FC and carrying on its mission of serving the at risk youth of the community in memory of their friends that passed away so tragically,” the page said.
