Team news: Bellerin, Monreal and Lacazette out of Milan tie

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed his side’s latest team news ahead of Thursday’s Europa League last-16 first leg clash against AC Milan at the San Siro.

Memories will be stirred of an epic UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie from 2011/12 when AC Milan welcome Arsenal hoping for a repeat of the big home win they managed then. The Arsenal manager provided updates on Nacho Monreal and Alexandre Lacazette and discussed why Hector Bellerin is not in the travelling party. This is what he said:

“He [Bellerin] is injured – he has an inflammation of his left knee, without ligament damage.

He had a scan yesterday, which was quite good. It showed inflammation.”He tried [to train] today but he needs some further investigation. He was in the hospital this afternoon to know why he is in so much pain. But it doesn’t look a long-term problem. He tried, he went out but couldn’t absorb the training session so we had to leave him behind.

“Apart from that, of course, Lacazette is not ready and we had to leave Monreal behind because he is not ready. He started a little session today only, but he is not ready.” Wenger told Arsenal’s official websiteWenger’s men, the lone English representatives in the UEFA Europa League knockout phase, won four of their six autumn encounters to top Group H before knocking out European debutants Östersund in the round of 32. After winning the first leg 3-0 in Sweden, they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home.
