Monkeypox Spread To Akwa Ibom The Monkeypox epidemic has spread to Akwa Ibom State, One case of the disease, which was first detected in Bayelsa state, has been confirmed, the Akw Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Charles Udoh, said.
He added that two other suspected cases are under investigation.
“Monkeypox currently has no treatment and no vaccine,” Mr. Udoh said, adding that “It looks like small pox but the rashes are larger while the disease is milder.”

“The era of avoiding excessive handshake, regular hand-washing and abstinence from bush meat is here again.
“We will provide more information subsequently,” the commissioner said.
This is just as the deadly viral epidemic has invaded Rivers State.
Confirming the outbreak, the State Commissioner for Health, Professor Chike Princewill, had said that the three cases were discovered on Thursday night at Rumoulumeni, Eneka, and Psychiatric Road areas of Port Harcourt of Rivers State.
“We have activated our isolation centres and we have put all our Health centres on red alert.”
“The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital, and all our Primary Health Centres have been reactivated.”
“We can assure you that there is no course for alarm because we are on top of the situation,” he said.
