Cristiano Ronaldo broke three impressive records during the international break and also equalled another record set by former Real Madrid forward Predrag Mijatovic.

Ronaldo is synonymous to recording breaking and he is used to such glamour when it comes to breaking records and setting new heights.

The Real Madrid forward scored a hat-trick in the 5-1 win against the Faroe Islands in their World Cup qualifying game, which made him surpass the legendary Pele of Brazil with a goal difference, the goals against Faroe Island took Ronaldo’s tally to 78 for Portugal.

The reigning world best footballer has 14 goals for the World Cup qualifying round which equalled Predrag Mijatovic’s record for Yugoslavia in 1998 according to UEFA.

Mijatovic set the record for most goals in a World Cup or UEFA European Championship qualification campaign but scored seven of his 14 strikes in a 12-1 playoff aggregate win over Hungary.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, netted his 14 strikes in just seven games in Portugal’s European qualifying group, bettering the previous record held Northern Ireland’s David Healy, who scored 13 times in qualification in 2008 – a record Robert Lewandowski equalled in 2016.

The hat-trick against Faroe placed him three goals ahead of Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko, with whom he shared the record for 29 career World Cup qualifying goals.

Ronaldo has scored 32 career World Cup goals (in qualification and the actual tournament), moving three clear of Germany’s Miroslav Klose, who finished his career with 29 strikes.

Ronaldo will miss Real Madrid’s game against Levante due to his suspension for shoving an official during the Spanish Super Cup in Camp Nou.
